Salford City FC: Rapid Rise and EFL Era
Promotions, Play-Off Success, and League Two in 2026 (2014–Present)
The Class of 92 investment accelerated Salford's progress. Promotion to the Northern Premier League Premier Division came in 2015–16, followed by the National League North in 2017–18 via the NPL play-offs. Salford won the National League North in 2018–19 under Graham Alexander, earning promotion to the National League. They achieved promotion to League Two in 2019–20 via the National League play-offs, defeating Fylde 3–1 in the final at Wembley under Richie Wellens.
In League Two, Salford consolidated with mid-table finishes and reached the EFL Trophy semi-finals in 2020–21. They won promotion to League One in 2023–24 via the League Two play-offs under manager Karl Robinson, defeating Walsall 2–1 in the final at Wembley. The club moved to the modern Peninsula Stadium (now The Peninsula Stadium) in 2023, a state-of-the-art 5,000-capacity venue with further expansion planned.
Recent seasons include strong League One campaigns with focus on youth development and community initiatives. The club maintains passionate support in Salford and has enjoyed cup runs, including the FA Cup second round multiple times. The Ammies continue to build on their rapid rise and EFL stability.
In the 2025–26 League One season, Salford City sit 12th after 35 games (13 wins, 9 draws, 13 losses, 48 goals for, 50 against, 48 points). They compete solidly in mid-table with consistent home form at The Peninsula Stadium. Recent years reflect ambition and progress in the third tier.
Salford City's history reflects extraordinary transformation. From 1940 local amateur beginnings to the 2014 Class of 92 takeover, meteoric rise through the pyramid, 2024 League One promotion, and ongoing EFL presence, the Ammies embody determination, modern ambition, and pride in Salford football at The Peninsula Stadium.
